Nominated for her song in Life Of Pi, Jayashri Ramnath, more popularly known as Bombay Jayashri was in LA taking part in the Awards festivities. In her beautiful kanjeevaram saris, the carnatic vocalist stood out on the red carpet, in the best possible way. Love.

  1. I’m glad she remained herself, but looking purely at the dress, I’m not a fan of the green/purple combination. Too glaring for my taste, same for the pattern.

  2. Gorgeous!! I wish she’d got the award instead of Sky-wail, but oh well…

PS. Why no Suraj Sharma sighting? He looked so so handsome in his tux- very sharp indeed (please don’t tell me it’s creepy to lech at a boy so much younger than I) 🙂

      • Disagree completely. There is NO rule re Kanjeevaram pallus being left open or closed (and I come from a long line of saree weavers and sellers of Kanjeevarams). Plus, because Kanjeevaram silk is heftier, folding the pallu can add more bulk than leaving it open.

I think the drape looks fine – this is extremely common for ladies in Madras who wear Kanjeevarams.

  3. i am a huge huge huge fan of her singing. but the red saree is flashier than what she usually wears.. doesnt seem to suit her well.

but her voice, calm demeanor makes her the most beautiful

  5. Her voice can calm down the most tense situation…. I love that she went so traditional. She looks very good on the red carpet. I think the photo of the party is not the best resolution, as that saree normally looks much better.

  6. loud as all hell!!! she could have replaced the red ball on her forehead with a smaller one, at least with the red sari. Yards of bridal material and so inelegant… that’s what it is… period. If not for her composure, this would have been bad.
Mrs. Ambani too was there.. can we have her posting please?

  7. I love that older south Indian ladies wear their Kanjis with such elan, and no certainly not gaudy. The colours don’t clash, the fabric is luxurious, there is a grace to traditional saris. Calling a kanjivaram gaudy is just ignorant. They are meant to dazzle.
