Amrita on Salon Int.: (Un)Covered
Considering Salon International isn’t a major magazine, I am going to guess that this pic of Amrita’s is from some other shoot or from her personal portfolio. Having said that, am glad we don’t see much of the gown. That silver choker detail was enough of a turn-off.

her smile makes the dress rock!
is it me or is there something about her that exudes tackiness? the dress is ghastly, and the silver eye shadow is just such an eye sore.
the magazine cover itself is unimpressive.
I know i am going to get beat for this but her face and smile remind me of Madhuri Dixit.
i agree .. i love that abt her!! now if only she can dress herself a little better!
I loved Neeta Lulla’s work in Jodhaa Akbar, it was truly one of the most visually pleasing movies I had seen costume-wise (In Bollywood AND Hollywood) so it saddens me to see her move away from her forte and design such disastorous outfits. She should seriously stick to traditional chic and make a niche for herself the way Sabya has done.
I really dont understand why so many Indian designer must design gowns when they clearly don’t know the first thing about the cut and quality required to make a good couture gown.Sub-standard workmanship is the worst sin; design is always subjective and something that I hate could appeal to someone else, but there is NO excuse for a dress that looks this shoddily constructed.
Designer like her who try to be international or Bollywood bling and fail when they could rock the traditional Indian look reminds me of some Indian restaurants (in India) where you get fabulous Indian food, but for some reason they also have a ‘continental’ food section which features all of these horrible desi-fied dishes like paneer pizza with thick maida bases and Indian spicy ‘chinese’ fried rice. π
Oops, in my angst I forgot to comment on the cover π
Everything about it from the edgy hairdo done wrong to the gaudy dress to the fake looking pose, just screams tacky to me. Oh and the makeup? Not Helping! However the background is so calming and uncluttered that it slightly reduces the garishness of the overalll look.
Sorry if I sounded mean, I need to start saying more nice things on here π
Hahaha, don’t get me started on the Paneer Pizza!
hey! we love the indian spicy “chinese” fried rice π
Oh no you didnt! π you dint just comment on the BEST-EST chinese food in the world..did u? the famous ‘indian chinese’…I LOVE it….(hate the desi verison of the gown…. bad cuts+ cheap fabric+ seriously shoddy workmanship…..whole another story) but…dont be dissing my ‘indian chinese now’! :))
hey… i love my indian chinese food! the best kinda chinese ever. miss those hasty tasty vans…
oh yeah.. the dress… NAH!
haha, looks like I’ve caused a minor riot amongst HHC’s indian-chinese fusion food lovers
NOW I know where all those omnious death notes and deflated car tires were suddenly coming from! π π
And here goes your windscreen too Chocolate Martini :D…. Indian chinese is a cult one ought to love ! π
amrita looks gorgeous.. and glad drastic part of gown is hidden.
it looks like some lehenga gown ;P
sim..i agree, she does look like madhuri
horrible dress.. but funky hair
Edgy hair with prim an propah makeup and a mish mash of a lehenga and gown….*sigh*
Tacky Tacky Tacky .!!
Neeta Lulla should seriously stop calling herself a designer….
The only good work she’s done has been in a few movies .. and that’s pretty easy considering you know what kind of character you are designing for ..any good boutique in Indian cities could do that(it’s all mirror work /embroidery/ brocade /zardosi borders / silks and chiffons) plus you could always buy clothes and materials from the awesome ‘bazaars’ here in India and pass them as your own .. only you should know where to find what!!
“plus you could always buy clothes and materials from the awesome βbazaarsβ here in India and pass them as your own .. only you should know where to find what!!”
I HIGHLY doubt that Neeta Lulla found elaborate, lavish, period Mughal costumes for hundreds of people for an entire movie in a BAZAAR. Be realistic. Besides TONS of international designers (ex: Dior, Tory Burch) use or get inspired by material that has been hand embroidered by artisans in India. There is nothing wrong with sourcing the material you use.
And besides HOW do you get off making baseless allegations like that (especially considering that we’ve never seen any remotely ‘inspired’ outfits from her) Questioning someone’s integrity like this based on NO evidence, is not done, not even if it is this casual.
P.S : PnP I hope you let my comment through, this isnt about being personally offensive, its about how Neeta Lulla does not deserve to have her honesty questioned for no reason other than the fact that somebody is not too impressed with her designs.
I think the dress is photoshoot friendly. I hope I never see it in public.
came across this link while i was looking for some old issues of Salon. I work in this magazine now, hope to get into your good books soon
