Amitabh At Cannes 2013

While his co-stars kept it simple, Mr. Bachchan’s dress code was rather flamboyant at the Cannes Film Festival. He opted for a striped jacket with white pants and shoes at the photocall and jazzed it up in a sequin tuxedo jacket with a bow-tie (a polka dot one at that, mind you!) for the screening.

You like his Gatsby style?

  1. For once, I don’t mind that atrocious jacket on Mr. Bachchan because he looks so good in it even at this age! Way to represent the industry on such a big level.

  2. Wish he didn’t wear that blue/white jacket. He’d have looked like young Jeetendra with white shoes and all.

    Totally love the screening look.

  3. The belted striped jacket and white shoes. The – did you actually say sequinned! – tux. Less Great Gatsby more 2013 does 70s Bollywood.

No 1 entry in my book on The Horrific Crimes Against Taste of the Rich and Wealthy. And let us pray hard that it never trickles down to the plebs!!

  4. Oh amitabh “uncle” what happened here????
Always so conservatively dressed n all of a sudden this? At Cannes?
Hate thr striped jacket looks too silsila n hate the sequined look even more – dear god reminds me of Parveen babi’s sequined look from jawaani jaaneman – all very 70s!

  5. I hate to say it, but he stuck out oddly in the group pictures, where everyone else was dressed to the nines. He looks like a band-baja wala, and not in a good way.

To think that he often gets it right!
    🙁

  6. Mr Bachchan’s stylist clearly doesnt like him very much. Atrocious. The striped whatever it is looks like a replica from the villian’s wardrobe from one of his 70s movies.

  7. I always thought this was a stylish man, guess age takes its toll on all of us. His stylist should be sentenced to dressing Govinda for the rest of his life.

    • Lol but do you really think Govinda needs a stylist – he does a pretty bad job on his own, no help needed! Jokes apart – yup he is a stylish man most of the time, but these clothes are truly atrocious! Why Mr. Bachchan 🙁 With that height, carriage and the general air of elegance that usually surrounds him, the stylist had very little to do but way to go and butcher a look!

  8. Cinema’s biggest icon dressing like this to an international event is a shame. Look at the the other actors of the film, so simple and graceful. Am sure the world is making fun of some Indians who always try so hard

    • I say Mr. B before age or beauty 🙂 Some people are above their clothes.(Of course we all are yada yada but few actually make the cut!)

Love the flamboyance, that’s what The Great Gastby is all about!!! He is unique and not meant to tow the line. This guy has a rock star’s following with his fans around the world. So if anyone can pull off a sequined tux it would be him. He was brought into the movie by Baz Lurhman for this reason. I think he looks fabulous…..

  10. Yikes!! He stood out like a sore thumb at both the events….such terrible dressing. What was he thinking? I love him very much and was truly embarassed to see him in these outfits……..Who designed those ugly pieces? End of the designer’s career.

    • Maybe its a tribute to her 2003 appearances…I mean someone in the family has to keep the tradition alive…..the one where you let loose all your pent-up madcap sartorial antics specifically on an international red carpet.

  12. Ridiculously hilarious comments. I haven’t laughed this hard for a while. A simple bandhgala would have done wonders. But no he chose sequin. Whaaateey for me.

  14. mr bachchan has always in the past looked incredibly dapper and well put together. it’s very strange and odd and even sad that he couldn’t look that way in cannes.

  15. I will have to say a big fat NO to AB. He is not young anymore… Being daring maybe a good thing in fashion, but not for everyone.

  16. All the glitzy jacket needed were lights from the song ‘saara zamana’. And the striped jacket has shikari shambhu written all over it!

  17. What happened here? I have never seen him dressed like this. Horrible. I screamed in horror when I saw him in the group picture..Looked uncomfortable on so many levels.. He sticks out in a really bad way!

  19. After seeing this, I have new found respect for Sonam and Vidya 🙂
It is even more hilarious when he stands next to other “well-dressed” cast members.

  20. Its not just the design of the jacket, its the fit. Never seen him with a bulging tum before! Who is the designer / stylist, seriously needs to look for an alternate career.

  21. I havent laughed this much reading the above very true n subtle digs at our celebrities. Much as a I luv his acting and elegant sophsticated attires Im truly disappointed with his sequinned tux reminds me of Elvis Presley and the blue stripes without the belt would have made it bearable. I agree his stylist should be sacked and send to work with Govinda! Thank you ladies for the best laugh

  23. I bet most of the people commenting here wud dont have good fashion taste … Just ape the usual boring western outfits is the mantra for the new indian generation … If Mr bachchan chose a western attire ..he didnt chose one of those ordinair waiters outfit…Way to go mr bachchan …i wish the youth of india had better taste.

  24. Amitabh Bachchan looks good in everything, his personality is beyond the clothes that he wears, though I have to say in the first look, the belt really dampened him.
But I have no qualms about the second one, even if it is sequinned, he is more remarkable( positively) than other actors of the movie, who looked bland before him 😉
