For once, I don’t mind that atrocious jacket on Mr. Bachchan because he looks so good in it even at this age! Way to represent the industry on such a big level.

  2. Amber at | | Reply

Love him but that jacket is so unflattering!!!

  3. KJ at | | Reply

Wish he didn’t wear that blue/white jacket. He’d have looked like young Jeetendra with white shoes and all.

    Totally love the screening look.

The belted striped jacket and white shoes. The – did you actually say sequinned! – tux. Less Great Gatsby more 2013 does 70s Bollywood.

No 1 entry in my book on The Horrific Crimes Against Taste of the Rich and Wealthy. And let us pray hard that it never trickles down to the plebs!!

I wish he had stuck to a simple achkan.

Separately, the comments on this thread are cracking me up!

Oh amitabh “uncle” what happened here????
Always so conservatively dressed n all of a sudden this? At Cannes?
Hate thr striped jacket looks too silsila n hate the sequined look even more – dear god reminds me of Parveen babi’s sequined look from jawaani jaaneman – all very 70s!

A good laugh at the end of day one of Cannes.

  7. olala at | | Reply

I hate to say it, but he stuck out oddly in the group pictures, where everyone else was dressed to the nines. He looks like a band-baja wala, and not in a good way.

To think that he often gets it right!

    1. mumbadiva at | | Reply

OMG!! Exactly my first thought “band-baja-wallah”!!

    2. Almitra at | | Reply

Exactly. He looks like an odd man out in the pictures. A nice conventional suit would have made the point. He is always so well-dressed? Why do this here??

  8. FashionFollower at | | Reply

What a let down! Is Mr. B screaming for attention? If he is, then he has got it !!!

  9. KAJ at | | Reply

needs a new stylist…he’s wearing a bathrobe in one & a cut-up saree (really ugly one at that) in the other!

    1. sheetal at | | Reply

lmao :) but a very apt descriprion of what he is wearing!

  10. Khushi at | | Reply

Not feeling the look at all. Too much drama!

  11. Myla at | | Reply

Mr Bachchan’s stylist clearly doesnt like him very much. Atrocious. The striped whatever it is looks like a replica from the villian’s wardrobe from one of his 70s movies.

  12. Adya at | | Reply

I always thought this was a stylish man, guess age takes its toll on all of us. His stylist should be sentenced to dressing Govinda for the rest of his life.

    1. just me at | | Reply

Lol but do you really think Govinda needs a stylist – he does a pretty bad job on his own, no help needed! Jokes apart – yup he is a stylish man most of the time, but these clothes are truly atrocious! Why Mr. Bachchan :( With that height, carriage and the general air of elegance that usually surrounds him, the stylist had very little to do but way to go and butcher a look!

  13. Lali at | | Reply

Cinema’s biggest icon dressing like this to an international event is a shame. Look at the the other actors of the film, so simple and graceful. Am sure the world is making fun of some Indians who always try so hard

  14. eclat at | | Reply

Ok, age before beauty, Mr. B :) We’ll let you have this one!

    1. Pheeling laejji at | | Reply

I say Mr. B before age or beauty :) Some people are above their clothes.(Of course we all are yada yada but few actually make the cut!)

  15. Nitasha at | | Reply

ARE YOU SERIOUS??? FUGLY is an understatement for both looks!!

    Love Love Love!!!!
Love the flamboyance, that’s what The Great Gastby is all about!!! He is unique and not meant to tow the line. This guy has a rock star’s following with his fans around the world. So if anyone can pull off a sequined tux it would be him. He was brought into the movie by Baz Lurhman for this reason. I think he looks fabulous…..

    1. Sheikha at | | Reply

My thoughts exactly! He needed to not blend in.

  17. Vanaja at | | Reply

Yikes!! He stood out like a sore thumb at both the events….such terrible dressing. What was he thinking? I love him very much and was truly embarassed to see him in these outfits……..Who designed those ugly pieces? End of the designer’s career.

Wow. Vidya’s ghunghat, Sonam’s nathni and now Mr.Bachhan’s disco outfit…..this is going to be the most interesting Cannes event ever.

Maybe its a tribute to her 2003 appearances…I mean someone in the family has to keep the tradition alive…..the one where you let loose all your pent-up madcap sartorial antics specifically on an international red carpet.

Ridiculously hilarious comments. I haven’t laughed this hard for a while. A simple bandhgala would have done wonders. But no he chose sequin. Whaaateey for me.

Y do Bollywood stars try out smth new on such an event
Y not go for smth simple yet look fab the same time
I hate the blue jacket n white pants a NO NO for me when compare to wat the other co-star of his was wearing – google it guys !!

All the glitzy jacket needed were lights from the song ‘saara zamana’. And the striped jacket has shikari shambhu written all over it!

    1. dn at | | Reply

      LOL! Yes, those disco lights!!

  33. Kari at | | Reply

What happened here? I have never seen him dressed like this. Horrible. I screamed in horror when I saw him in the group picture..Looked uncomfortable on so many levels.. He sticks out in a really bad way!

After seeing this, I have new found respect for Sonam and Vidya :)
It is even more hilarious when he stands next to other “well-dressed” cast members.

He is trying way too hard…I am embarrassed for him.

  38. adya at | | Reply

Its not just the design of the jacket, its the fit. Never seen him with a bulging tum before! Who is the designer / stylist, seriously needs to look for an alternate career.

I havent laughed this much reading the above very true n subtle digs at our celebrities. Much as a I luv his acting and elegant sophsticated attires Im truly disappointed with his sequinned tux reminds me of Elvis Presley and the blue stripes without the belt would have made it bearable. I agree his stylist should be sacked and send to work with Govinda! Thank you ladies for the best laugh

  44. thumbsup at | | Reply

I bet most of the people commenting here wud dont have good fashion taste … Just ape the usual boring western outfits is the mantra for the new indian generation … If Mr bachchan chose a western attire ..he didnt chose one of those ordinair waiters outfit…Way to go mr bachchan …i wish the youth of india had better taste.

Amitabh Bachchan looks good in everything, his personality is beyond the clothes that he wears, though I have to say in the first look, the belt really dampened him.
But I have no qualms about the second one, even if it is sequinned, he is more remarkable( positively) than other actors of the movie, who looked bland before him ;)
