(Un)Covered

There have been many collaborations in the past but none have scored major covers like the yet-to-hit-stores Balmain for H&M collection. First it was Elle, and now Cosmo with its cover girl Alia wearing a dress from the much hyped collection.

Love the cover?

Speaking of Balmain X H&M, guess who’ll be there for the launch next week in NYC? US! Given our love for designer-high street collabs (see here), you can only imagine our excitement. 😉

  1. This is disappointing because it’s such a static cover. She looks frozen and plastic (albeit beautiful), and her right hand looks weirdly big. Terrible.

  2. Super to know you will be there! About the cover, there is just much too much photoshop out there. It has completely transformed Alia’s face into someone she is not. If you see the lower half of her face, its a template. Too symmetrical & rather impossible for a real person. Right hand: finger & ring are mismatched. Left hand: thumb going behind looks wrong. Cosmo, this is just too bad. Give the girl her life back.

  3. She looks fine. Not earth-shattering but she looks just fine. She is mostly written off as just being cute, here she looks more than that, and I appreciate that.

  4. I think ..people here comment too critically..Her hands are fine as per scale..I don’t see anything wrong proportion wise…I don’t get whether it’s jealousy or just the itch to say something bad/mocking-some.

  5. Waiting for the day when someone influential takes a stand against blatant abuse of photoshop on magazine covers that’s taking place these days. Her face, chest, and waist have all been manipulated to fit Cosmopolitan’s idea of an ideal body/beauty. We all know she doesn’t look like this in reality..who are we kidding? Yes, you need to sell magazine but please dont try and sell distorted realities to young girls and most importantly…to the actress/model in question herself.

  6. I’ll tell you why that hand looks weird: the waist was photoshopped to be thinner, and the hand, since already in the pic (cannot “remove” hand to make photoshop waist first, then place hand back to make it look “normal”?) was “sucked” in with the waist being thinned. Omg! A 2 yro can do such a thing with a computer now days. This from a major mag? Yikes!

  7. I wonder if people who are giving their takes on photoshop do have any experience on working with photoshop. But each,to their own.Photoshop is just a technique to highlight saturation, contrast, sharpness and countless other concern which actually makes a photo.Manipulation these days ‘Is’ what would make a photo standup. However, around the world, lots of new ideas are taking places and vogue or any other magazine in their core places are using more innovative ways to make their pictorial stand up I’m sure.To just criticize based on photoshop is too commonplace now.

    • Can’t believe someone could take something so literally, and so out of context.

Let me spell it out – Its not photoshop-the-tool thats criticized, its the use of photoshop in magazines to completely change the person’s features and body to make them fall into the typical perceived standards of beauty (which are completely bull to begin with, but thats a discussion for another day) which is criticized all over the world.

To top it, most of the times its a job done so bad, that the end result is humanly impossible. Tiny disproportional waists, uneven arms / legs, morphed faces.

Just search for “Target Model Photoshop” and see for yourself.

      • Thank you. I’m glad there are mature people in the world. I seriously feel that when it comes to designing magazine covers featuring actresses, these designers just put their practicality aside. Heck, I wouldn’t even want ‘such self’ of mine being put on the cover just for the sake of being an eye-candy if I’m an actress. It’s an insult to my identity and myself. Alia keeps harping on being ‘honest’, ‘real’ and what not.. didn’t she raise a finger or talk to the team who designed this cover? if she is ‘so real’ she should also stick to being her physical self on the magazine covers as well.. Like Kangana Ranaut recently said, everyone around is fake.
