We already know what big fans of Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Twinkle and Dimple are. So it is no surprise that when it came to meeting royalty, HRH Sriji Arvind Singh Mewar, Twinkle picked an equally royal sherwani worth Rs. 17 lakhs by the duo to dress Akshay in.

  1. interesting to read that no one was allowed in the palace however H.R.H made an exception for akshay! however the outfit was too much dressing up…plus it does not look like its worth 17 lakh ( I read 17 on midday).

  2. the outer jacket is nice, but the shirt completely clashes with the jacket. A plain beige shirt would have looked better. I am a fan of AJ/SK, but 17 lakhs!!!!

  3. ooof. this is horrible. so bourgeois and excessive. why do bollywood stars try so hard? simple chic elegance like the maharana himself would have been far more appropriate. it could have been worth 12 lakhs or 12 rupees and wouldn’t have made a difference. And the aviators take it to another level of douchebag. if you are going to meet “royalty” at least remove your glasses and make some eye contact = respect.
ps…anthony bourdain went to visit and cook with the maharana and wore a nice dark suit.

    • Akshay would have looked boring, old and politician like if wore what the maharana wore.
i am glad he went this way. The ensemble as such could have been better. But i ll give him credit for trying. But 17 lakhs ! Thats not speaking for AB/SK’s work. Thats speaking stupidity for the people who bought it. I could find that ensemble for a price which has 2 zeroes less. (Ok ok, when people can afford it, then why not…)

    • I completely agree with you! This would have looked great at a wedding (although it’s something the groom would wear), but to wear it during the daytime for a cooking show, just is too much. I think the maharana himself looks so much more put together than Akshay. And why would someone spend so much money on an enemble in a country where some people don’t even have a piece of cloth to cover themselves? I know it’s about the haves and have nots but I find it really about flaunting your wealth and status rather than anything else.

    • People who are not “royal” always over dress… and ppl who are really royal, dont try so hard 🙂
I agree about the glasses… he could have worn a nice white kurta and skipped the glasses. This looks like he can about any minute break into a “singh is king” dance.

    • give the guy a break… he make gazzllions … he can afford to spend it.
we spend 60rupees on a cup of coffee … 2000rupees on a pair of jeans … 150rupees on a haircut … such amounts would be scandalous to someone who makes 500rupees a month!!!
cost is relative … no point in judging others when we are all guilty of the same sin!

    • i compltly agreew with u.. this is too much. that sherwani is something u wear to a wedding/party not to meet a prince.poor akshay never heard of the words”simple, chic and refined “. he looks a bling out disco ball.hurts my eyes to just look at him.

  4. yes… 17 lakhs is too much…. Akshay looks really smart…. but not getting the shades…. It is somewhat inappropriate to wear shades when meeting such personalities…. should have taken it off…..

  5. its funny how the article says that “twinkle wanted AK to look like royalty himself & therefore dressed him up in this diamond & pearl encrusted sherwani” whereas the real royalty himself is in the most classic sober sherwani…another example of nuevo riche !!

I’m sure the outfit looked rally dull on Tv as well !

  6. talk about over the top! and a total washout….a nice simple sherwani would have looked much better and elegant….this almost looks garish and kinda funny when the mahrana himself is wearign such a simple classic outfit and he could have easily carried this off =)

  7. I think this outfit is a total misfit.
AK should have worn a “band-gala” like he wore at “Padmashree ceremony” that was more event appropriate IMO

  9. Does MasterChef Australia have its hosts and contestants dressed like they’re at a Sangeet? No, but we still watch it! Compare that to this, and that other abomination Kitchen Champions (which I once watched with jaw dropped while channel surfing!) where the ladies look they’re straight out of some saas bahu serial.
I know- it’s ridiculous to vent on a fashion site :), but I still don’t get why everything in India HAS to have a film star in it- judging, hosting, endorsing, whatever- in all their sequined, beribboned, blinged out glory- all the time!!
