In Rami Kadi

Drama is what you all yearned from Aishwarya after her day one and day two appearances on the red carpet and Ms. Rai delivered just that on day three wearing a Rami Kadi off-shoulder gown with a lavender lip.

Yes, at first glance, the look felt very very weird but the more I look at it, the more I love! It was very unexpected!

Am pretty sure, I will be in the minority here! 😛

  1. I want to like the lavendar lip I just can’t! Its too jarring. She looks gorgeous otherwise, the smokey eyes and sleek ponytail, perfecto but the lip colour ruins it completely.

    • Yes. Actually in close-ups the lavender lip doesn’t look as bad but in captures covering her entire silhouette, they kind of stand out (not in a good way). She looks so gorgeous otherwise in that eye-makeup and sleek ponytail look.

  3. From plain boring to outright bizarre … there are a million ways of looking dramatic on the red carpet without resorting to such extremes (in my opinion)

It does come as a big surprise, but that face pulls it off!

The more photos im seeing, the more im loving it.

It brings that whole unexpected drama you’re looking for on the red carpet. its fresh and its quite a risky experiment.

At first i just didn’t get it, but the more i’m scrolling through her images on getty – she is totally rocking this whole look!

I guess the shock comes because we are simply not used to seeing that shade on the lip,
    Love it.

  8. I know it’s frustrating to see Aish do one underwhelming look after another in spite of being so gorgeous and having access to the best of brands and designers. But she seems like a simple girl tired of playing dress up and waiting to go back home and rest those tired legs and eyes and slip into something comfortable. And appearing at Cannes just to honor her contract or commitment or whatever. Just wish she’d done a better job of it.

  9. There is a difference between being a clown & bringing drama to the red carpet. If it was a sleek stern look I would have liked the lavender lips but on a flowery princessy gown this looks pure clownish. I wish they replace ash with kangana. Have been disappointed with all her looks

    Reply
    • Why replace Aishwarya? She might not be as fashionable as Kangana but that doesn’t make her any less worthy of attending the festival. She has been the ambassador for the brand for 15 years now and that speaks a lot about her merit. It’s absolutely okay to critique a look because it is a fashion blog at the end of the day but let’s not be this mean

      Reply
      • There was nothing mean spirited about my statement. And no one is denying that Ash has merit. Maybe I just want to see someone different up there with a different fashion style. She has had plenty of chances to prove herself on the red carpet…And she has done well….May be someone else deserves a chance as well.

        • Attending a film festival hardly has to be something one person ‘deserves’ and another does not. No?

The comment indeed came across as mean. We are here to comment on whether or not we like the appearance. If you get into who ‘could do it better’ than who, it just goes down a slippery slope. IMHO

          Reply
          • The intention was not to sound mean. However I do stick to my opinion that I would like to see Kangana walk the red carpet. I don’t care if she replaces ash or not.

  10. This is not drama … this is completely clownish

As for the dress – she is wearing practically the same color palette on all days. and the silhouette of the last gown was similar to this. Couldn’t she pick a dramatic gown instead

btw, whoever did her makeup should be fired. Look at HQ images – every single line on her lips is showing. her lips look chapped.

  11. She had a better run last year. This time, all her frocks are interchangeable.

The lavender lips; sometimes weird is wonderful. Some personalities carry off the quirky. Ash is not one of them. She is a traditional beauty with borderline boring taste. Old Hollywood glamour is her thing. She doesn’t have the oomph nor the dress to complement that shade of hypothermia.

  12. Love the gown on her and yes she looks good. But still cant warm up to that lip color. Agree with Asha, it is just that we are not used to seeing that shade on the lips.

  13. Love that she is taking risk, trying something out of her comfort zone but clearly the lips stood out in a bad way. Classic, elegant dress with smoky eye, neon lavender lips was miss match. May be a funky gown with bright color and dramatic make-up (like her day one) to match the lip would have been cooler.
Katy Peryy Grammy 2015 was begging for lavender lip.

  14. Aishwarya is my queen. But this look totally disappoints. A dark violet or a berry color lip color would have made a world of difference. I actually thought someone posted a photoshopped picture. This is sheer disaster. It looks like cupcake frosting on the lips. I mean really for Sarabjit screening is the best she could come up with?!! what was she thinking?!!!!!!

  15. Sorry but those lips are a mistake. It’s making her complexion look sallow. It may work on a drama queen like lady gaga but aishwariya? Not so much. Still the dress is flattering for her, feel disappointed by her Cannes looks for this year.

  16. Sorry but I hate those Kylie Jenner-esque lips. I actually got scared seeing that lip colour. That gown had a lot of potential but the whole makeup and to top that horrendous lip color ruined it.

  17. I like the lipstick on her but somehow it doesn’t work out with that gown. But props to her for trying something new!

  18. Reading the comments is kind of hilarious,
All the suggestions sound like everything that would fall under ‘predictable’ or ‘boring’
And thats all that we complaint about from her.

When she steps out of that comfort zone, we’re pushing her back into it.

Kudos to her for pulling this of,
Its not something that could work, but hell yeah! she makes it work.

  19. The gown is gorgeous – love the detailing and bead work.

I’m not sure about the lipstick but it is a bold risk and has everyone talking about it including the international press. So mission accomplished in terms of standing out to get attention for the movie premiere.

Aastha sharma, please put your phone down in Cannes and take a look at your client before sending her out on the red carpet.
PS. This is coming from a die hard Aishwarya fan.

  21. First off, I love the gown. It is a beautiful piece of work but Ms.Rai ruined it by her lip color. Sorry folks, I am not buying into the “Look, I am attempting bold and unconventional red carpet style” . She looks hideous. Her lips looks huge and her face looks bloated as a result. Her worst ever!

  22. It is no so much the lip colour that bothers me, it is the application. You can see the lip cracks! I will definitely give her points for trying!

  23. I think the issue with Aishwarya is that she takes risks with her makeup, and not her clothes like everyone else. Everyone else will keep the makeup safe but go crazy with the outfits. Whereas Aishwarya will take risks with her makeup such as the blue eyeshadow from a couple of days ago and now this lavender lip. However given that Aishwarya is at Cannes as a brand ambassador for Loreal, a cosmetics company, I believe she’s RIGHT in taking risks with her makeup. I might not love the look (even though it is growing on me) but I have to applaud Aishwarya for actually doing what’s in her job description.

  24. I’ve never had an issue with Aish neck up-always stunning. Her ponytail a welcome change. I do however have an issue with her wearing the almost same style gown 3 days in a row! And to make matters worse this gown is not even custom made nor is it just worn just by her. Some Arab singer has worn it 6 days ago and her pictures are all over the internet. Why does her stylist not take advantage of the fact that the best designer’s in the world would gladly dress her ,nor does she make her wear any amazing jewelry. She’s beautiful without but a pair of ear studs, bracelet would finish her look. I think dressing Aishwarya Rai is a huge deal one the stylist cant cope with. Sonam as always has the more dramatic looks with the less beautiful face. I wish Ash had been in that white Raplh Russo gown- would have been jaw dropping.

    Reply
    • She is not fit enough to pull the white Ralph Russo one. May be her choices are made with this in mind. She can choose to be as fit as she wants but then it becomes difficult to pull off certain stuff. Her arms being so untoned it is not a very pretty sight, but she brings some attitude to the carpet and gets a pass.

  25. The gown is beautiful. The lip colour is edgy and achingly cool. I just don’t like them together – a different dress would have faired better with the lip colour and a different lip colour would have done this dress more justice.

  26. I feel like this could have been so much prettier with a soft pinkish lavender eyeshadow instead. With a nude glossy lip to go with it. But hey what do I know? I’m just a girl sitting in her PJs with acne cream on. Lol

  27. The more I keep looking and keep thinking, the more I am liking it….that lipstick especially. Very unlike her and refreshing actually.

  28. Sort of left me speechless. This is quite daring of her, but unfortunately she looks rather sickly. I’m surprised no one has picked up on that smokey eye and foundation. The issue here is not so much the lavender but the rest of the face (it’s especially obvious in the closeup shots)

  29. I think the lip colour was going for a gothic outfit while the gown was going for a princessy make up , so the whole look ended up clashing. But kudos to Aishwarya for pulling it off. She still managed to look beautiful and graceful.
Have to say overall, this year was a disappointment especially her hairstyle. Aishwarya never brought RC drama in the past but she always managed to be a Cannes hit. She was splendid last year, this time not so much. Well, for what it’s worth, atleast her fandom were having the time of their lives on twitter.

I really wish Aishwariya would have picked gowns with deeper colors. She did a red gown, but the ones on red carpet were of similar shades. Sshe would look lovely in saphire green and deep blue colored dresses too.
I am not a fan of this make up as it’s more for shock value rather than going with the dress here.

  32. Head up the lavender lip Color works … But with the dress it becomes distracting and almost amateurish … They have been influenced by the slivers of purple on the dress, and in that case a more deeper purple shade of lip stick would work … Time and again, this gorgeous woman proves she needs a better stylist.

bec it is her, people are saying that she is doing something different. This is not different. Her lips look like they don’t belong on the face. Its a rubbish look from a red carpet veteran.

Having said that the more I look at it, the more I love the look. I remember the lilac shades being big in the early nineties in lips and nails. This is a much more dramatic, and modern version. Can’t wait to get my hands on something similar. Maybe loreal is going to bring out signature violets now?

She should have given that lippie a thumbs down, seriously ghastly colour. I wonder if someone is intentionally ill-advising her??…I mean seriously dude!!…Lavender @ Cannes??!!

  36. It looks like she has been poisoned wearing the world’s ugliest dress. Nothing works at all and I am starting to doubt her stylist, make up artist and her own eyesight . It’s a terrible look and I don’t know why it ever saw the light of day anywhere in the world. A sloppy job by everyone concerned

  37. I find it so disrespectful how women always tend to bash other women. It’s 100% okay to dislike someone’s outfit but I wish people could limit their remarks to a person’s sartorial choices. There really is no need to call women (successful women who you don’t even know personally) try hards, attention mad, average looking, wannabe, etc. Or to sit here and undermine their achievement by sitting here and counting the number of cameras pointed at them. As for the cameras I’ve spoken to people who’ve been to these events and many times why you don’t see the cameras in the background pointing in the direction of the women is because there are always multiple women on the red carpet and photographers prefer to photograph the other women from the front if the one in front of them is turning the other way and so on. They’ve all done a great job and while I certainly prefer some looks over the other, I don’t consider this as a right to call to demean them.

  39. We all know that Aishwarya is so poised and elegant. What we didn’t know is that she is such a punkster too!! Loving the bold move. The red carpet is all about experimenting and having fun. When else can one wear bizarre couture and the latest makeup fads. And her smoky eye is done pretty well. Me like!!!

  40. I love Ash. I do. I love the Ichiban lip color! But what I really hate and what I see no one talking about is that the sleeves are looking so tightly sewn that in some pics it looks like she has three cleavages! Its visually 10+ more jarring than the lips TBH.

I actually find her to be rather appealing .Atleast she dared to try something else .??Thank god her hairs were not open like she usually keeps in almost all her looks lately. And yes her lavender lips were kinda weird but she pulled it off well and she is not looking tacky or like a clown.I feel it is only her who can pull this look well. The more I look at the photographs the more I like her.??

  43. I appreciate her taking a risk with the lip color – it is dramatic. But I have issue with the application of it and also I have an issue with pairing it with that particular gown. The gown is a princessy, beaded classic dress, and everything (hair, styling etc) is also along the same lines. Just applying a shocking color to your lips, will not make it edgy and cool. The look needs to be cohesive. Also, go with either dramatic eyes or lips – isn’t that the rule? She has a dramatic smoky eye going on along with the purple lip – the eye is drawn to various features on her face. It does not work. And couldn’t L’Oreal come up with a lip color that could moisturize her lips as well. If you are going for something so dramatic, where you would expect photographers to go crazy and take close up shots of your face and lips – at least make sure your lips look luscious and moist. They are chapped so badly, we can see cracks. Sorry – but this make-up and look failed on execution. Better luck next time.

  44. It doesn’t work on so many levels, I actually feel bad for her.

I don’t know where our stylists are getting their ideas from, but most of the time, the Kardashian-Jenner family comes to mind.
There is no originality whatsoever, everything seems half-baked and borrowed from here and there.

  45. I just feel like this lavender is too cool toned with notes of blue, if she had worn a purple/lavender that was more warm toned and picked up on the beautiful golden undertones of her skin then this would have been a winner!

    *paints on Been-dead-three-days lips*
    Ash: Erm…still not working!
Stylist: *plonks her next to Richa Chadda*

  47. Hahaha! And Aishwarya Rai laughs all the way to the bank! She did it! This is exactly what she wanted, she trended on twitter and was most spoken about during Cannes outings! Now L’Oréal will extend her contract yet again… We will keep seeing her at Cannes for atleast another 5 years. This is exactly what Aishwarya extracts out of us! Foreign fans and media are happy and desi media and fans weren’t but in the end, Aish got maximum coverage 🙂 🙂 🙂 One super smart babe, her brain is so bright, it doesn’t matter whether her lipstick is or isn’t. 🙂 Anyways, I agree that the more I look at her, the more I like this lipstick, that pony and how it works with her gown. Kudos! Most of all, I just love her brains and attitude that speaks for itself. Inspiring…

    • Lol. Ditto. If she can still hold up the highest number of comments (positive or negative) still in Highheel after these many years (and not even that many movies in hand), stirring up social media while her long running contract with L’Oréal continues, it IS quite a feat in this mad competitive industry. She has the beauty and the brains. 😉

  49. Hats off for trying but in close ups this shade looked very bad on her. In distance photos and selfies I saw on Instagram it is not so bad but on red carpet it is looking bad. I think the gown is also not so good

  50. OMG why. I had thought I would never comment on it, but just cannot stop myself. I mean trusting makeup artists is one thing but she must have looked once into the mirror before stepping out.

I like that lip color, but not on her. It would definitely look great on certain skin shades. But it’s doing nothing for her except aging her and enhancing her wrinkles and freckles a bit more.

Disastrous decision to go along with that look. All it would have taken was a conscience and a single dab of makeup remover. Sigh.
