Tote Spotting

Spotted Ms. Rai with a YSL leopard-print Downtown tote that she paired with her green salwar kurta. While we love animal prints and we are also big fans of the Downtown silhouette, in this particular case, we have to say that the silhouette and print don’t quite gel together. This particular bag, we quite dislike, especially paired with that outfit! What about you?

  1. I dislike animal prints and dislike the bag even more! Besides I think that the only person who can do animal prints is Shipla Shetty. Some people have a signature scent but Shilpa has a signature print!!

  2. This is not a bag I would buy with all the money in the world, but I am slowly opening up to things that I didn’t give a second look, and trying to let go of the boundries I created in fashion for myself. I think this bag will go well with a plain maxi dress in beige for a relaxed resort look, or with a structured garment for a sophisticated professional look.
I really want to say something nice about her ensemble and highlight it, but, well, the colour of the salwar kameez is nice.

  3. I agree with sonal…aishwarya really does give a bhabiji vibe a lot these days…I think age has caught up with her…and there is also nothing refreshing about her sense of fashion…I have always felt that she tries too hard and glorifies herself for who she’s become in the industry…bias aside…the salwar is average…but paired with thebag, it makes the outfit look uglier…coz she cant carry off that print…its just not her!

  4. I love YSL and the Downtown. But this is just sheer torture. Why do we have to see animal prints everywhere? They scream tacky! X-(

  5. I can’t believe that fugly bag costs more than a down payment on my car! I really don’t mind the bag, but not paired with her outfit…it just looks all wrong

  6. Is this the same event and the same suit because there are sleeves in one and not in the other.

The suit is pretty and simple and the tote manages to ruin the look and actually makes the simplicity look like a bad thing which it isn’t.

  7. umm is she wearing 2 different salwars? In one pic, its sleeveless, the other one its cap-sleeved!! Random observation.

I think she looks like a normal Indian lady…nothing wrong with that. Just because she was Ms. World, doesn’t mean that she has to walk around with a Tiara and paint on her face all her life. I think its really time to cut her some slack, people.
Lets just take our frustrations out on the newer flock – Sonam , Frieda etc (see how bad it sounds!)

That said, the bag has to GO!

  8. Hi Nepali, I agree with ya. The color looks nice on her. and even though she looks a bit tired, it’s a casual look so no critique from my side either.

  9. Even though I am a die hard fan of aishwarya ….. I absolutely detest her dressing sense…. and these above pictures are very good examples of that… what a waste of gifted looks! Its like she tries really hard to look bad everytime in terms of dressing…its disappointing.

  10. That bag is ugly. I hate animal print anything.

According to the story, Aishwarya was in Bhopal to visit Abhishek’s grandmother, aunt and cousins.

  11. I can’t believe I am saying this about YSL but I totally detest that bag, hideous!! It looks like a cheap rexine thing one would find at Linking Road / Colaba Causeway or Sarojini Nagar / Lajpat Nagar…..yuck!!
And is it just me, or has Ash actually packed on a few pounds??

  12. Hey Rashmi, you are hardly around nowadays, too crowded for you? It used to be pretty quiet here. Yeah, she looks good in anything actually. As long as one is happy, that’s all that matters.

  13. The pictures look like from two different times. In the first its a sleeveless and the 2nd pic has short sleeves and work near the nech. Just the color’s the same.
Give her a break. She is not in her 20’s anymore and neither does she need to be dressed up always.
Its just that the media and people have so much fascination about her they never leave her alone. Even on family visits like this one she is followed and criticized like so many comments here.
What do people expect in mid 30’s. She looks fine. Couple of pounds here and there and she is talked about.
Put a sack on her and she will still look gorgeous.

  15. Looks like she wants to be “satya savithri”…
I have no problem in her wearing a salwar, but she looks like she is trying too hard to give herself the “adarsh bharatiya nari” image so all the aunties and uncles will like her.

  16. For instance… Nandita, Konkana and so on dress up pretty conservatively but they dont look that **what the word** ahh “bhenji” types.

  17. My God, that bag is hideous, especially for the price tag. I also don’t find the salwar kameez very flattering; the pale color washes her out.

It’s annoying that gaining a bit of weight = “bhabiji”, according to some people. It’s one thing if she were massively obese, but she looks healthy. In fact, I think Aishwarya looks better when she is slightly heavier; it gives her an ethereal quality.

  18. Yup, totally different dresses. One has sleeves the other doesnt. Also necklines are different.

But one thing common — Both are yucky!

  21. Hey P&P,

The first picture, with her and Abhishek is at the Bhopal Airport. Don’t know where/which event the secong one is from.
As for the bag, I don’t like it one bit!

  22. Let’s face it, this woman hasn’t an ounce of style or even plain dressing-sense. That said, I think we shud let her be in this case, cuz it was probab a personal outing and not a public event.

  23. I like the bag and of course it is impossible for this woman to not look good. @brenda: I think she is the richest woman in bollywood

  24. You know why do we criticize any time these stars step out of their homes. They are on a family visit or in the airport, they dont have to be dressed up to other people’s taste, do they?

A premiere or a party is different!
