In Sabyasachi

Comment image 118

Aishwarya wore a Sabyasachi sari to the Raavan premiere in London and that couldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone considering the fact that he (Sabya) did the costumes for the movie and she has been spotted in a slew of Sabya outfits while promoting the movie.

Ms. Rai Bachchan looked great; impeccable make-up, fabulous hair and seriously lust-worthy sari. But is it enough to distract us from the hot-mess that is that blouse? Kitsch or not, those sleeves make for a serious downer.

Ash set the bar high for herself after this appearance of hers in a Sabyasachi sari or even this one from a while back, again in a Sabya and as lovely this appearance of hers is, we can’t get ourselves to disregard that blouse.

Also, Abhishek looks goood in his suit, doesn’t he?

    • totally agree! she looks awesome, the makeup is perfect, the hair is perfect and the saree is fab. She looks totally awesome. Infact i like this saree more than the one she wore at Cannes, and although i dont love the sleeves, i dont hate then either, its really not that bad.

Doesnt this saree look a lot like the one she wore to the Oprah Show.

  1. oh dear.

those sleeves would look lovely.. on something else.

and that blouse on it’s own is unflattering.(imagine without sleeves)

  2. She looks stunning. Old world glamour. Very similar to the other Sabya sarees that she has worn (Filmfare and Oprah) The blouse seems weird. It might have worked if the sleeves fitted her better. Or if it were sleeveless with just the maroon part.

Abhi looks good, but are those blue shoes?

  3. She looks like a saei store mannequin from the sixties. Terrible. Ageing and formulaic! Give this whole look a break. Don’t become another vidya balan. Boring. Yawn.

    • wud b appreciable if u cud know to tell between vintage+kitsch from ageing+old
sometimes nothing can look as contemporary as vintage
      wats wrong with ageing anyway?
it doesn’t mean one has to always strive to look younger than they are!!
this look is so perfect considering the premiere is happening in the West
Ash looks classy, graceful and jus phenomenal!!

      • i agree in the first photo, the way she is standing she looks like a mannequin, but come on she doesnt look old, she looks beautiful and very graceful. Please dont compare this look to Vidya Balan’s.

I am happy to see a different hairstyle on Ash, i hated those center parts and the long barbie hair the whole industry has to get rid of. This is great.

      • Ageing is cool.. Old is beautiful.. just looking like a Kala niketan doll from 1964 is not! She looks beyond amazing [regardless of age] , but this over dolled up look is not for me. Did u see how amazing she looked in the longines elie saab gown or the nachiket barve maxi this year? this is vintage plastified mannequin in comparison.

p.s: also at the gucci dinner in a simple black gown.. fabulous!

  4. She has not looked this beautiful in a very long time. Hair, makeup, sari and that stunning blouse – impeccable… yesteryear meets the modern woman of today both in sari/blouse and styling. Sorry girls … but its unfortunate that you cant see the beauty of that blouse with the sari.

  5. Beautiful saree.. the sleeves (the very first pic) … major error… would do without the embroidery or better without those sleeves. She looks amazing though.
    Abhishek… yuck those blue shoes….

  6. P&P could you also do a post on Jaya’s sari? It also looks kind of like a Sabya. To be honest it looks a little nicer than Aishwarya’s, which looks a bit messy and loud.

  7. why oh why can’t the L’Oreal people do her hair and makeup like this at Cannes??? & didn’t she color her hair orange a few days ago? What happened to that? This looks sooo much better

  8. she should hire the makeup artist and hair stylist permanently! and she should never let the makeup artist from cannes touch her face ever!

  9. that sari sure is lustworthy but that transparent pallu ( the part of garment that’s worn around shoulder ) and blouse are actually bad , not just bad but too bad and not working with the rest of sari .Her hairs do look awesome here.
and as for abi guy , the less said the better

  10. She looks stunning. I really like the neck of the blouse. The sleeves not so much but Aish looks like a diva. The sari reminds me of the sari she wore on Oprah.

  11. absolutely stunning! her hair and make up excellent. the quirky blouse is what makes it “designer”.the white on the blouse looks better thru the net material of the pallu. wish it was a dull white instead of stark white and also if it matched the white in the border. 2 thumbs up!

  12. no disrespect to sabyasachi, but ash really needs to switch up designers. its almost like she has found the perfect black dress and is unwillng to bother looking for something different. honestly, i feel that is a bit lazy on her (or her stylist’s) part.

  13. I’m so happy she went for a saree!!! She looks gorgeous, but yeh the sleeves are baaaad, I swear in the first pic her right arm looks like it’s not apart of her body? :S

    Abhishek looks dapper as usual!

    • I,
glad she stuck with a saree too, they really suit her. The sarees gorgeous but the sleeves are killing it slightly but still she looks better than shes looked in ages!! Must be all those rich Sabyasachi colours, they make her look regal.

  14. looks amazing…makeup is impecable…and the hair this time also…they look good…i can ignore the blouse..she looks really good

  15. Ash looks beautiful, but the saree blouse is disgusting, it looks like something wrong with the blouse also the blouse is so short and the sleeves are too long. WHY CAN”T INDIAN DESIGNER JUST DESIGN SIMPLE BLOUSE, next the designer’s will put LONG TRAIN ON BLOUSE or WINGS.

Infact Jaya Bachan’s blouse is better than Ash?

  16. luv the saree and make up, so elegant, i like the style of the blouse and luv the sleeve and the pattern on it, but im not sure the mixing and matching of the slevves and blouse and the blouse and saree is good, i think the blouse is slightly too busy for an elegant look but serious I HATE THAT BAG makes the look, look cheap, but i do like abhi’s blue shoes, a nice matallic skinny blue tie would had looked better……designer is only a name, but sometimes it cant b a winner all the time!

  17. Wasnt she supposed to do a movie on Maharani Gayatri Devi – she looks like she is auditioning for that role. Oh if only the pallu were not that tacky material. She looks gorgeous – very regal. To Nitpick – The sleeves are a little too bold for my liking and yes the clutch/bag needs to be thrown away.

  18. LOVE IT.
even with the hot mess of the blouse, LOVE IT

my mission in life is to seriously own a gorgeous sabyasachi saree..hehe someday!!!

  20. Lovely make-up, pretty sari…and I love the hair. the blouse works here methinks…just wish the pallu wasn’t so transparent…

    Reply
  21. She looks nice and I like the bottom half of the sari.
Hate transparent pallu, the blouse and not much found of the hair style (but the hair color is better than the light brown hair she generally is in).

  22. Love the blouse (and I never thought I’d say that about something velvet) and that sari is freaking fabulous. But both of them at once = overkill.
I like that she changed her hair, but I wished she’d worn it like she did at the IIFA (I think?) in that fantastic black and gold Sabya sari (slicked back, center-parted).

  23. the sari looks overwhelming, the way aish is carefully wrapping it over just so, so that the patterns dont collapse on top of each other. is she wearing the sari or is it the other way around?

i’m firmly in the minority here, but i dont like the sari. it looks like the transparent manish malhotra worn by kareena at IIFA.

aish has put on some weight and is glowing 🙂 good for her!

  24. she looks beautiful, the patterned blouse adds to the sari, somehow it all flows well, fabulous hair and make up. I am not a fan of the bag she is carrying.

  25. She looks lovely, nice make up, but wish she had changed to a different blouse. And have seen that earrings on her I don’t know how many times, have forgotten the count also
    Overall she looks awesome!!!!

  26. Queen of the carpet….But blouse sleeves is a no no…plain sleeves would have been better…thats sleeves with a rather plain sare can do wonders…

  27. she looks amazing but yes, the blouse is hideous. Ash does not have the best arms in the world and such ornately done sleeves only serve to underscore the fact that her arms are not toned. love the HAIR particularly. amazing.

  28. Love the sari and the blouse for sleeve length and cut; not sure of the pattern on sleeves though. Really like the make up and hair. I think she looks great here.

  29. Ash’s arms and shoulders have always been her nemesis. Which is why this wide neck and the printed sleeves add bulk in that area. I’d have preferred her in a sleeveless or plain sleeve version. not feeling the net pallu either. i’ve always found them a little tacky. even so, her makeup is great and she looks lovely.

as for baby b – i’m not discussing him till he shaves. he looks like the sort you’d step around, on the road.

  30. OMG – welcome back lady gorgeous!! shes looking lovely – weird sleeves aside..but did you notice even them sleeves look nice when sheathed with the pallu – its only the uncovered black n white side which looks off pattern …

  31. She is STUNNING!!! Love her here..Elegant, beautiful, great hair and makeup. (Not huge on the bag. A bottega clutch would have looked better) But They make such a nice couple. I hope the movie is good!

  32. She looks nice…good makeup, hair and all..great saree…bad blouse…but all-in-all a winner.. As far as Abhishek goes, I seriously think he needs a good shave…he looks unkempt to me always..don’t know why…I think it’s that unshaven look.

  34. Hair and make up are spot on! But that’s about it. The transparent pallu is tacky, and that sorry excuse for a handbag is just hideous! And don’t even get me started on that blouse!!

  35. Actually, seems designer mistaken here. Jaya’s blouse and Ash’s blouse sleves. It look alike. It seems like extended version for Ash 🙂

  37. LOVE IT! This really exhibits why shes called soo beautiful all the time.
She makes everyone secretly want to look like that – even if for a day…Admit it girls!

I love the left arm of the blouse underneath the sari pallu so perhaps a more subtle print would have worked.

I think after Raavan she’ll be done with Sabyasachi – as shes promoting her movie after all.

She looks soo graceful and elegant with her hair up 🙂 (please don’t carry a purse if it looks like that honey!)

  38. I’m loving her saree, how gorgeous is it?!! The sarees are killing it slightly but its not the end of the world, she looks better than shes looked in ages – the saree is THE garment she looks best in. Love all those rich Sabyasachi colours also, that must be whats making her look so regal.

  39. She looks great.. can’t believe I’m saying this because for me Aishwarya rarely gets it right .. but this look is very beautiful — this is the Ash i would love to see always!!
Yeah a simpler blosue would have made out the saree stand out even more, but this works fine as well given this is her big movie premiere .. so she’s allowed to go a bit OTT.
But she definitely looks like a princess here!!

The hair color is great too .. she should just stick to it instead of the usual brown / orange she sports.
Oh! and as always Sabya rocks..So, it’s on my list of Top 10 things to do ASAP – own a Sabya sari — like the one above!!
    I feel so under-privileged now !!

  40. She does look like a mannequin in the first pic; but she’d make one helluva gorgeous mannequin. She looks fantastic here.
The Bachchan boy needs new shoes. And quick!

  41. hmm… She looks damn dignified and glorious!! And..people… just give ur critical eyes a break.. that sari , pallu and blouse sleeves.. all fit very well in the picture. She has that attitude to carry off this style.. !!

  42. So many things right and so many things wrong here.
right – the ornate design of the saree
wrong – the plain white pallu…seems like a disconnect from the rest of the saree
right – make up and hair
wrong – the blouse. omg. horrendous. she looks matronly. the embroidery is all a mismatch with the saree and total chaos. would have liked a simple black or green blouse…
overall great look…she pulls it off well!

  43. As fabulous as she already looks on this ensemble, I think she would have looked more fabulous if it was a sleeveless blouse without the black sleeves.

  44. Personally I’m not feeling it…there is a little too much going on there… mishmash of colours black-white-maroon-bronze-green and that transparent pallu that shows a swathe of flesh of the midriff as well, which is coupled with a whole bunch of patterns/textures – an ornate Ed Hardy looking thing on the sleeves along with whirls, zigzags, regular embroidery and long strips of velvet lining. Guess it’s my lack of fashion sense but I prefer well-crafted sarees …you know the kind that look aesthetically pleasing instead of a bunch of colours and fabrics thrown together in a heap and then mowed down by a sewing machine.

    Reply
    • Have you seen a real Sabya – they are so cleverly put together. The whole mishmash thing is so quintessentially Indian – its like our village folk dress – in myriad colors and yet it all comes together!! She is so beautiful here and the sari represents the crafts of India..a little encouragement for the Indian side would be nice!

      Reply
      • Teh only traditional thing I can see on that sari is the print on the main part (where the pleats are) – the gold-on-black standard embroidery. The rest is a bizarre combination of velvet lining, splotches of white paint and a pallu that is uncomfortably and unflatteringly see-through.

        Reply
      • its about the Saree not about aishwarya looking pretty or not..not all crafts can be put together in one place…nobody is saying that the saree is bad because its Indian.

  46. AB JR,your wifey is Absolutely Beautiful. How gorgeous is that saree. She does remind me of 60’s, 70’s heroines,Like Hemamalini. I really dislike the blouse,it’s distracting me when I am trying to focus on the saree.

Somehow I feel when we look back at this after a decade,we might not be so upset with the blouse but we would rather look at fact that Aishwarya Rai was one of the best looking actresses we’ve ever had.

  47. The sari, hair and makeup…retro but ravishing. The sleeves on the blouse does nothing for the sari, an extra detail that could have been missed by the designer in my opinion.

Bad.How can be she so messy with dressing style.

  49. i really want to understand that why some ppl here are really liking the saree? its not just the blouse, the whole dress is awful..its messy with unnecessary details…the only nice thing about this look is her “face” its beautiful… now sabyashasi is the next overrated designer after MM.

Having said that saree is great but blouse is not.Maybe it is the sleeves. It looks like it has been ripped of some other dress and attached to the bodice of the blouse.

    • because many people cant understand how such a beautiful woman can wear WTF outfits with alarming regularity. I guess she thinks she can get away with anything because of her face

  51. She draws the most attention because she’s called “The Most Beautiful Woman in the World” and is so obviously NOT! This is miracle of sorts for her, but she always looks like an Air India stewardess to me more than a glamorous actress. Meh..

    • Going by your logic: Sushmita Sen was crowned the Miss Universe which i understand is on a much higher scale than a Miss World. Sushmita gets a Not quite most of the time on this blog and she is supposed to be more stylish. How many times has she been sighted on this blog? And how many comments does she garner? Like 20-30 max? Haha! It’s Aishwaryas popularity and people love to hate her(or love her). Just like SRK, one can hate or love him. But can never ignore him!!!
