She may have done bright colors at a recent bash but for her first work related appearance, Aishwarya did a more traditional look in a white Abu-Sandeep lehenga complete with flowers in her hair and jewellery by Kalyan Jewellers.

We like this avatar a whole lot better.

    • A comment as explicit as this (“fat”, really?) gets published. No problem. Where the heck is the moderation on this blog?
I expected better judgement from you guys. So disappointed.

      • I re-read the comment… And I must be missing something. I didn’t read it as ‘Prags’ raising an issue with weight but only used the word to differentiate it from ‘looking old’. No?

          • Nope, it isn’t. Why just ‘old’, there are many comments that we read that we don’t agree with or opinions that we don’t always subscribe to. And many of those comments (and the comment that you are referring to) don’t necessarily get flagged for moderation. It’s hard to have a comment policy that everyone agrees with… At some point Payal and I needed to make a call that works for us, and the parameters we’ve chosen work for us. We’ll revise our policy as and when we need to.

            • Being that we are all different, we are bound sometimes to read into a comment differently. If Priyanka and I both agree that we didn’t find anything wrong, we approve. If either one has an issue, it gets moderated. This is a case of where you are reading into it different than us.

Of course, there are days, when some slip by us, but we’ve always mentioned that it is just the two of us (yep just two, no conglomerate) and we’re bound to make mistakes as well. We do take care of them as soon as it is brought to our attention.

          • I think anything you wouldn’t say to her in person is NOT okay – not just here, but on the internet in general. but then, Indians begin conversations with comments about weight, what to do 🙁

  3. Will take this over the black hideousness any day. She is still hiding behind layers, but that’s her choice. She looks very beautiful, but I do see a big difference between the Kalyan jewellers print ad to this. I don’t understand why they want to present a different image, when the original is nothing to be ashamed of.

  4. just when i thought abu-sandeep lost their taste in fashion..oh well she is still the most gorgeous lady..her appearance reminded me a lot of the tere bina song in guru.

  5. Beautiful, beautiful! She looks every bit her South Indian self here 🙂 The middle parting, the bindi, the jasmine flowers..and her speech during this function was so honest and simple and accent-free. Guess she is true to her self when she is in the South.

    • More like she is every bit the chameleon her profession demands her to be.

When she is in Cannes, she is a world-class diva. When she attends south-Indian functions she speaks with a very desi accent (without any trace of condescension). When Ravan premiers in London, her accent resembles the British. When she is at a government-hosted function, she wears Indian handloom…

Like every other Bachhan, she only ever calls these people her ‘well-wishers’ and never her ‘fans’, which is slightly more patronizing.

As for her clothes, she rarely goes wrong with Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla.

  6. That’s one heck of a luminous face. Aishwarya looks beautiful here, no quibbles (tho to be completely honest, I can’t entirely see the outfit)

  8. OMGahhh she looks fab!!!!!!!!! I don’t like her overly dyed hair though I think she would look better as a deep brunette rather than that reddish color. Move over starlets Ash is back!

  9. Why do people photoshop SO much. There is a world of difference between this and the Kalyan Jewelers ad , she just looks so different there .

That said, very elegant look. Can’t go wrong with it

  10. Pic on the right she looks cute and young.. I really like this look. I wish Ash would be superficial and self obsessed enough to come on this blog and read this comment but I get the feeling she has never given a crap what others say lol it’s at times admirable and at times frustrating!

I like the look.. hope to see different looks from her in future!!!!!!!!

  11. she looks really pretty for her age. She’s not a young heroine competing for the top spot any more and still has a beautiful face to sell jewlery and such. I’m sure there are tons of people who like Aish in her new role plus the white sari/jewelry give her a wholesome motherly look which is nice.

    • best comment. she is pretty at her age given her current life situation (new mom). she isn’t going to be the 20 year old modelesque sanjana from pepsi ad. if that is expectation people have of her then yes they will make comments like “fat” and “old”.
      she looks radiant.

  12. P&P, I’d love to see a more coherent moderating policy here. You often pass comments that ridicule your looks and intelligence (which is completely uncalled for), invoke racial stereotypes (the comment about ammas and violins on this post), and have ageist overtones. I know you want to be fair and inclusive, but nastiness in the comment section makes it unpleasant for your readers. While we’re at it, the “you’re so biased/you’ve taken money from this celebrity” comments feel uncalled for, too. It’s fashion and entertainment – of course one can have favorites or think a particular star works clothes better. Accusations like that are not kosher.

  13. Late to this party.

Actually the comments here are pretty moderated. Its not like go fug where its not moderated at all.

I think one has to stop being sensitive and overly bothered about personal opinions expressed here even when they include the dreaded f.t word. There’s far worse on the internet – I have seen worse on facebook, really even in party conversations. And I am sure celebs are used to having their apperance commented on and are hardly going to be bothered by some anon person bitching on the Net.

Mostly internet comments are interactive, if you have an issue you can always point out to the commenter that it is rude and that sets the discourse. The site owner cannot worry about each and every sensibility here when they are moderating-what offends me may not offend someone else.

If anything, I find comments like “she is f.t” dull and unimaginative rather than offensive – hey folks if you are commenting try and be witty and entertain us!

    • AM – I beg to differ; this is a site about fashion. If people start taking mean potshots, especially about weight and age, the quality of the conversation deteriorates rapidly. I am not even a big Ash fan but i respect her personal choices and I am a fan of this website. Comments like “fat white pumpkin” or “madarasi” jokes just simply do not fit in a forum of this caliber.

And if you want to really know what nasty and rude comments are, just go to the TOI site and check any article. The comments are so offensive that it will take your breath away. And THAT is a site run by a massive media organisation.

After that, you will realise how conscientious P&P are about their moderation despite being just two unpaid bloggers.

    • Sara I am no fan of potshots or personal comments – my pet hate is she looks like my bai. However I am no fan of censoring people either. Essentially I support freedom of speech – even for idiots. Plus I would leave it up to the site owner to take a decision – and I respect that decision – otherwise it’s like offended people form a pressure group and force their opinion on the site which I am against. Essentially any site has to strike a balance – to moderate and to ensure that their readers have a say. If it all had to adhere to a strict norm there would be very few – and very bland – comments on this site.

As indigirl says look at TOI. Its the age of the internet. Just like in life we have to get used to seeing both positive and rude feedback online.

      • To clarify, my comment was not directed at P&P’s moderation policy. And I agree with you that you cannot just censor people. When I was typing my comment, it was really a plea for the readers of this site to just focus on fashion and not take personal potshots.
